Boys Select 17 PDC - Day 3 Notes

Second-Half Explosions: The first two games of the day featured second-half comebacks by Kelly and Columbia.

After falling behind early in the first half, Kelly scored with 20 seconds remaining in the first and then again 20 seconds into the second half en route to a 4-1 victory over White. Kelly was led by Ivan Lodnia (Novi, Mich. / 2G, 2A) and Austin Pratt (Lakeville, Minn. / 2G). The victory lifted Team Kelly into a first-place tie in the American Division with seven points.

Team Columbia trailed Team Orange 3-2 heading into the second half, but Columbia tallied four unanswered goals in the second half to spring a 6-3 victory. Columbia received two points from six different players including Colin Felix (Ocean City, N.J.), Matthew Quercia (Andover, Mass.), Steven Agriogianis (East Hanover, N.J.), Marko Riefenberger (Denmark Township, Md.), Ryan Poehling (Lakeville, Minn.), and Aidan McDonough (Milton, Mass.).

Clean Sheets: During Monday’s action, three goalies posted shutouts during their 25 minutes of playing time. The first clean sheet of the day was recorded by Team Kelly’s Jonah Geim (Littleton, Colo.). Geim made eight saves during the second half of his game against Team White. Dylan Weimer (Rochester, N.Y.) also recorded a shutout during his half of action making seven stops in the second half against Team Orange. Last but not least, Kyle Keyser (New Hudson, Mich.) of Team Red made 12 stops in the first half against Team Forest.

Hat Trick: Joey Strada (Scottsdale, Ariz.) provided the first hat trick of the camp, netting three goals in Team Gray’s 6-3 victory over Black. He also tallied an assist in the game for a total of four points.

Match of the Unbeaten: The day’s final game saw Team Gold face Team Royal in a matchup of teams with previously unscathed records. Both Gold and Royal had scored 11 goals through their first two games. The game needed a shootout to be decided with Gold prevailing 4-3 courtesy of four shootout stops from goaltender William Girard IV (Boca Raton, Fla.).
