FRISCO, Texas – Slovakia earned a 4-3 shootout victory over Germany and the Czech Republic topped Switzerland, 5-3, in day three action at the 2016 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, Texas.
Team USA returns to action tomorrow against the Czech Republic in a matchup of undefeated teams at 8:15 p.m. ET.
All Five Nations Tournament games are free of charge, in addition to being streamed live at usahockey.fasthockey.com.
Slovakia earned a 4-3 shootout win over Germany to open day three action at the 2016 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament in Frisco, Texas.
Slovakia took a 1-0 lead at 3:09 of the first period on a power-play goal by Kristian Kovacik. Just 4:21 later, Dennis Lobach scored Germany’s first goal of the tournament to tie the game, 1-1. Taro Jentzsch gave Germany a 2-1 advantage entering the first intermission with a goal in the final minute of the period.
Oliver Okuliar tied the game, 2-2, for Slovakia with the team’s second power-play goal at 8:02 of the middle period.
Dominik Bokk gave Germany a brief 3-2 lead, scoring at the 8:52 mark of the final period, before Slovakia tied the game, 3-3, just 41 seconds later with a goal by Martin Ilencik.
Martin Fasko-Rudas netted the lone goal of the shootout in the third round to give Slovakia the victory.
Michal Vojvoda made 30 saves in the victory for Slovakia. Hendrik Hane stopped 44 shots for Germany.
Germany returns to action tomorrow (Aug. 12) against Switzerland at 4:30 p.m. ET. Slovakia has a rest day tomorrow before closing out the tournament against the Swiss on Saturday (Aug. 13) at 4:30 p.m. ET.
The Czech Republic topped Switzerland 5-3 to close out the third day of action in the 2016 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament at the Dr Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, Texas.
Dylan Pena Triana put the Swiss on the board just 1:19 into the game with a goal assisted by Keijo Weibel. Tomas Koblizek scored for the Czech Republic late in the first period to even the score, 1-1.
Switzerland struck early again in the second period when Mika Kiener’s shot from the slot found the back of the net just 1:09 into the frame. Czech forward Matej Blumel collected a feed from Tomas Dajcar and beat Swiss goaltender Yann Fevre to tie the game, 2-2, 6:20 later. Blumel then scored his second goal with five minutes left in the period to give the Czechs their first lead, 3-2. Adam Gajarsky added a final-minute tally to increase the Czech advantage to 4-2.
Czech forward Karel Plasek and Swiss forward Jerami Gerber netted goals in the third period to make the final 5-3.
Kristian Kolar made 11 saves for the Czech Republic while earning the victory. Fevre finished with 23 stops for the Swiss.
Both teams return to action tomorrow as the Czech Republic closes out its tournament against Team USA in a matchup of undefeated teams at 8:15 p.m. ET and Switzerland faces Germany at 4:30 p.m. ET.
