Team USA Members Receive NWHL Honors

Decker Earns Top Scorer Award, Named League MVP; Bozek Best Defender

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Several members of the U.S. Women’s National Team received honors as the National Women’s Hockey League recognized its top players with the announcement of the second annual NWHL Awards earlier today.

Forward Brianna Decker was honored as the league’s Most Valuable Player and recognized as the NWHL's Top Scorer after leading the league with 14 goals and 31 points in 17 regular-season contests. The Dousman, Wisconsin, native closed out the regular season on a four-game scoring streak in which she amassed five goals and 14 points.

Megan Bozek was named the league’s Best Defender after amassing five goals and five assists in 16 games this season while also blocking 20 shots. She also finished tied for third in the league and led all defensemen with three power-play markers.

The Boston Pride were recognized as the NWHL’s Regular Season Champions after leading the league with a 16-1 regular-season record. The Pride features seven current National Team players, including Kacey Bellamy, Alex Carpenter, Decker, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight, Gigi Marvin and Amanda Pelkey.

The Pride open the 2017 NWHL Playoffs in a semifinal matchup against the Connecticut Whale (Kelli Stack, Haley Skarupa) on Thursday, while the New York Riveters (Amanda Kessel) square off against the Buffalo Beauts (Bozek, Emily Pfalzer) in the other semifinal on Friday.

The winners of those two matchups will meet in the Isobel Cup Final on Sunday, March 19 at 6 p.m. ET. For a full schedule and playoff information, click here.
