NTDP Set for Final Homestand of 2016-17

The NTDP will play their final home games of the season on Friday (U17s) and Saturday (U18s) against Bloomington.

NTDP Notebook Week of March 20 – March 26

The U17s and U18s welcome the Bloomington Thunder to USA Hockey Arena for the final home games of the season with a pair of 7 p.m. ET matchups Friday (March 24) and Saturday (March 25).

The U17s are looking to bounce back after a pair of losses last weekend to Sioux City on Friday (March 17, 2-1) and Saturday (March 25, 8-1). They play their last home game of the season Friday night (March 24) before finishing the season on the road against the Fargo Force and Youngstown Phantoms.

The U18s are looking to continue their winning ways following a series sweep against Dubuque winning, 5-2 and 3-1 last weekend. They wrap up their last home game of the season at USA Hockey Arena hosting Bloomington Saturday night (March 25) before hitting the road to face the Muskegon Lumberjacks in their final USHL matchup.

Matchup Preview

SILENCING THE THUNDER: The Thunder will be making their final appearance at USA Hockey Arena this season. The last time the Thunder were in town was December 10, when the U18s defeated the Thunder, 4-1, while the U17s fell just short, losing 3-2. The teams most recently met March 12 in Bloomington, where the U17s were defeated 4-1. The last time the U18s were in Bloomington was January 29, defeating the Thunder 7-3.

Bloomington sits at 22-24-4-3 on the season.

Two of the top scoring defensemen in the USHL will be facing each other this weekend. Wyatt Kalynuk of Bloomington has 30 points with a 6 plus-minus on the season. U18s Quinn Hughes (Orlando, Fl.) has 24 points with an +8 plus-minus rating on the season.

Notes

NORRIS ON A ROLL: U18 forward Josh Norris (Oxford, Mich.) leads the team with 50 points (22-28-50) following a three-point weekend against Dubuque. Norris has tallied nine points in the past five games. Norris also boasts a +9 plus-minus rating in 50 games played for the U18s this season.

PLUS-GAME: U18 defenseman Tommy Miller (West Bloomfield, Mich.) currently leads the U18s team with a +23 plus-minus rating in 54 games this season.

NHL FIRST’S FOR NTDP ALUMS: JT Compher (2011-13/Colorado Avalanche) and John Hayden (2011-13/Chicago Blackhawks) tallied their first career NHL goals last week.

MISMASH ON POINT STREAK: U18 forward Grant Mismash (Edina, Minn.) has an active 13-game USHL point streak that started on December 31, 2016. The University of North Dakota commit has scored in every USHL game during the 2017 calendar year.

NCAA TOURNAMENT: The NTDP has 18 alumni that will participate in the 2017 NCAA Frozen Four Tournament.
