BRATISLAVA, Slovakia— Billy Pascalli (Deer Park, N.Y.) tallied two goals to lead the U.S. National Inline Team to a 4-1 victory over Germany in its quarterfinal game at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Inline World Championship.
With the victory, Team USA (4-0-0-0; W-OTW-OTL-L) advances to meet the Czech Republic in the semifinals tomorrow (June 30) at 12 p.m. ET. A live stream of that contest will be available here.
“We ran into a hot German goaltender but stuck together to earn a solid 4-1 victory,” said Joe Cook, head coach of the 2017 U.S. National Inline Team. “We look forward to the semifinals tomorrow and a tough Czech Republic team.”
The U.S. controlled the play in the opening frame, outshooting Germany 11-5, but the game remained scoreless after one period.
Pascalli gave Team USA a 1-0 lead 39 seconds into the second frame when his point-blank attempt deflected off the leg of a German defender and into the net.
Shane Fox (Sicklerville, N.J.) doubled the U.S. advantage with 1:14 remaining in the third stanza with a shot from the left faceoff dot.
Germany got back to within one with with 9:07 remaining in the fourth period before Pascalli responded with a goal from the left circle just a minute and a half later.
With just eight seconds left in the game, Travis Noe (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) tallied an unassisted power-play goal to bring the final score to 4-1.
Troy Redmann (Brea, Calif.) stopped 17 shots to earn his second victory of the competition in goal for the U.S.
NOTES: For complete game stats, click here … The U.S. has medaled in all but five of the 19 IIHF Inline World Championships previously staged, including six gold medals (1996, 1997, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2013), four silver medals (1998, 2001, 2009, 2011) and four bronze medals (2000, 2003, 2005, 2014). There was no tournament held in 1999 or 2016.
