Girls 15 PDC Notebook: Day 4

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The 2017 USA Hockey Girls 15 Player Development Camp finished today with a series of playoff games to determine the camp champions at St. Cloud State University’s Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.

In the Liberty Pool, Team White scored a 2-1 shootout win over Team Red to open play. Team Gold added a 3-2 win over Team Teal to set up the final showdown. In that title bout of the Liberty Pool, Team White rolled to a 2-0 victory over Team Gold as Caitlin Boudiette (Redding, Conn.) recorded five saves and the shutout for Team White. Boudiette finished the camp with 21 saves on 23 shots (.913). The Team White goals were scored by Avery Myers (Fargo, N.D.) and Jada Habisch (Buffalo, Minn.). It was the third goal in four games for Myers, whose five total points tied with Fiona Claugherty (Woodbury, Minn.) for second most among all campers.

In the Liberty Pool consolation game, Team Red scored a 2-1 win over Team Teal. Kennedy Little, a defender from Andover, Minn., scored the game-winning goal for Team Red in the second period, while goaltender Molly Black (Devils Lake, N.D.) had six saves to collect her first victory at the camp.

In the American Pool playoffs, Team Green notched a 1-0 win over Team Light Blue and Team Orange posted a 2-1 shootout win over Team Gray.

In the American Pool consolation game, Team Gray gained a 1-0 win as netminders Amelia Julian (Apple Valley, Minn.) and Amanda Busky (Ellington, Conn.) combined for 11 saves and the shutout win. The game’s lone goal was tallied by Team Gray’s Hadley Swedlund (Rock Springs, Wyo.), one of only two Wyoming natives at the camp. 

In the American pool championship, Team Orange chalked up a 2-0 win over Team Green. Taylor Hyland (Wellesley, Mass.) and Amanda Lackmann (Farmington, Minn.) totaled 11 saves in the shutout win. For Lackmann, it was her fourth flawless performance in as many appearances as the Lakeville North high schooler racked up a camp total of 28 saves on 28 shots.

Team Orange goals came from Ally Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.), who finished camp tied for fourth overall in scoring, and Paige Larose (Sutton, Mass.).

In the National Pool playoffs, Team Pink advanced with a 1-0 shootout win over Royal Blue and Team Black scored a 2-1 shootout win over Team Vegas. In the consolation game, Team Royal Blue posted a 1-0 shootout win over Team Vegas, with goaltenders Jennifer Olnowich and Amanda Thiele (Milford, Mich.) combining on the seven-save shutout. Olnowich, from Madison, N.J., finished the camp unblemished with 23 saves on 23 shots.

In the title game, Skylar Irving (Kingston, Mass.) powered Team Pink to top honors with the lone goal in a 1-0 shootout win over Team Black. Team Pink goaltender Olivia Rinzel (Chanhassen, Minn.) stopped all seven shots she faced to finish the camp a perfect 25 for 25 in saves.

Notes: Eden Prairie (Minn.) High School forward Sydney Langseth finished as the camp’s leading goal-scorer (5) and point-getter (7) in four games played … Chicago Mission blueliner Emmery Korfmacher (Cottage Grove, Wis.), who competed at USA Hockey’s 2017 Girls Tier I Nationals, finished in a tie with Kennedy Little (Andover, Minn.) for the camp’s top-scoring-defender honors. Each posted two goals and one assist.
