Girls U-18 PDC Notebook: Day 1

Today's Camp Notebook

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The 2017 USA Hockey Girls U-18 National Player Development Camp opened July 16 with games at St. Cloud State University’s Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, MInn.

The day started with a 5-4 victory by Team Pink over Team Gray. Emma Kee (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored two goals for Team Pink and teammate Gina Driscoll (Orange, Conn.) added the game-winning goal at 7:50 of the second period

In Game 2, Team White scored a 3-2 win over Team Black. Teagan Heaslip (Ft. Worth, Texas), Danielle Castino (Naperville, Ill.) and Olivia Miller-Johnson (Essex Junction, Vt.) all scored goals for Team White in the victory. Between the pipes, Team White goalies Arielle DeSmet and Hannah Turnage (Highland, Mich.) combined for 24 saves.

Later in the day, Team Red charted a 3-2 victory over Team Green. Kenzie D’Ascenzo (North Farmington, Mich.) tallied the game winner at 5:59 of the second period. D’Ascenzo also had a goal in the first period and teammate Peyton Anderson (Arvada, Colo.) opened the scoring for Team Red at 15:22 of the first. In goal, Maddox Angerhofer (Stratham, N.H.) and Sophie Goldberg (Pottstown, Pa.) combined for 17 saves for Team Red.

The first shutout of the camp was posted by Team Gold in a 2-0 victory over Team Purple. Camryn Kronish (New York, N.Y.) and Lucy Morgan (Mandan, N.D.) notched a total of 21 saves in the shutout victory for Team Gold. Sydney Herrington (Bow, N.H.) and Gabbie Cox (Niverville, N.Y.) each had goals in the contest for Team Gold.

Capping the first day of games at the U-18 Player Development Camp, Team Royal Blue and Team Light Blue skated to a 3-3 tie. Light Blue goals were posted by Olivia Hanson (Minot, N.D.), Mia Brown (Meriden, N.H.) and Elana Zingas (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.), while Team Royal goals were added by Brooke Bryant (Stockton, Calif.), Marissa Agerter (Farmington, Minn.) and Mady Johnsen (St. Louis, Mo.). Jada Brenon (Buffalo, N.Y.) and JoJo Chobak (North Aurora, Ill.) combined for 26 saves in the game for Team Light Blue, while Carly Denora (Verona, N.J.) and Kaley Doyle (Detroit, Mich.) had 12 saves in the nets for Team Royal.

The USA Hockey Girls U-18 Player Development Camp will continue with games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on July 18.
