GAMEDAY: U.S. Meets Canada in U18 Series Opener

The 2017 U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team makes its debut tonight as it takes on Canada at the Lake Placid Olympic Center to open the 2017 Women’s Under-18 Series. Opening faceoff is set for 6 p.m. ET. The U.S. and Canada have met 30 times at the U18 Series, which has been held annually since 2007, and Team USA holds a 12-1-3-14 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record.

Tickets for the three-game series will be available for purchase at the arena and each game will be streamed live at HockeyTV.com.

LEADERSHIP GROUP: Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.) is serving as team captain, while Gracie Ostertag (Shakopee, Minn.) and Dominique Petrie (Beverly Hills, Calif.) are serving as alternate captains for the 2017 U.S. Under-18 Women’s Select Team.

GOLDEN GIRLS: The U18 Series roster includes seven members of the U.S. Women’s National Under-18 Team that won gold at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women’s World Championship – Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.), Lizi Norton (Orono, Minn.), Gracie Ostertag (Shakopee, Minn.), Dominique Petrie (Beverly Hills, Calif.), Lindsay Reed (New Vernon, N.J.), Ally Simpson (Frisco, Texas) and Madeline Wethington (Edina, Minn.). Heise, Ostertag and Wethington also won gold as members of Team USA at the 2016 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship.

AT THE HELM: Joel Johnson (White Bear Lake, Minn.), associate head coach of the University of Minnesota women's ice hockey team, leads the U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team as head coach. Johnson is serving as head coach of the U18 squad for the fourth consecutive season after leading Team USA to the gold medal in three consecutive (2015, 2016 and 2017) IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championships. Joining him are associate coach Maura Crowell (Mansfield, Mass.), who currently serves as the head women's ice hockey coach at the University of Minnesota Duluth, and assistant coach Courtney Kennedy (Woburn, Mass.), who is the associate head women's ice hockey coach at Boston College.

FROM FAR AND WIDE: The roster is comprised of athletes from nine different states, including Minnesota with 10 representatives, Massachusetts with three, and Texas and Illinois with two apiece. California, Missouri, New Jersey, North Dakota, Pennsylvania are also represented.
