GAMEDAY: The USWNT Back In Action In Winnipeg

Puck drop set for 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET against Canada; Watch live on NHLN

The 2017-18 U.S. Women’s National Team returns to the ice today (Dec. 5) at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m ET in Winnipeg, Man., at Bell MTS Place. Today's game marks the sixth meeting between the U.S. and Canada on the season, the U.S. having won three of the first five.

GAME DAY: Tonight marks the sixth of eight meetings between the U.S. and Canada leading up to the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, and the second to be held in Canada. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m. (CT) at Bell MTS Place in Winnipeg, Man. Tonight’s game will be televised in the United States on NHL Network. EARLIER THIS WEEK: The last meeting between the U.S. and Canada was on Sunday evening (Dec. 3) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn., where the U.S. fell to Canada, 2-1, in overtime. Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) stopped 24 of 26 shots in the loss.

ON THE ROAD: Tonight marks the second game between the U.S. and Canada held north of the border during the 2017-18 season. The first meeting was held Oct. 22 at the Videotron Centre in Quebec City, Que., where the U.S. defeated its rival, 5-2. Nine different U.S. players registered points, including two goals from Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.), as Team USA topped Canada for the season-opening win. After tonight’s game, the U.S. will play only one more game in Canada, Dec. 17 at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alta. That game will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NHL Network. 

LAST TIME IN WINNIPEG: The last time the U.S. Women’s National Team faced Canada in Winnipeg was April, 10, 2007, in the gold-medal game of the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championships. The game was held at MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The U.S. earned the silver medal, posting a 5-1 loss to Canada in the gold-medal game, finishing the nine-team tournament with a 3-0-1-1-0(W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record. U.S. captain Krissy Wendell (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored the lone goal for Team USA, while goaltender Chanda Gunn (Huntington Beach, Calif.) faced 34 shots from the Canadians and turned away 29.

PRE-OLYMPIC TOUR: After falling to Canada on Sunday (Dec. 5) at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, the U.S. record against Canada moved to 3-0-0-2-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) on the season. In the pre-Olympic tour that proceeded the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, the Bring On The World Tour, the U.S. finished 3-1-0-0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) against its rival. Including tonight, three more games remain between the U.S. and Canada in advance of the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games.
