U.S. Natl Sled Team Seeks Fourth-Straight WSHC Title

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team meets Canada today in the championship game here at the 2017 World Sled Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The two teams met on Wednesday (Dec. 6), where the U.S. skated to a 5-2 win. Puck drop is set for 4:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. ET). Twitter updates will be available @usahockey with the hashtag #WSHC.

THE SERIES VS. CANADA
Since the 2014-15 season, the two teams have met 14 times, with the U.S. posting an 9-2-1-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record. All-time, the teams have met on 87 occasions with the U.S. claiming a 24-9-8-45-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record.

FAMILIAR FOES
This is the seventh consecutive major international title game to feature the U.S. and Canada. The U.S. had won six straight championship meetings before falling to Canada, 4-1, in the gold medal game of last year's 2017 Para Sled Hockey World Championship in Gangneung, South Korea. The last time the two teams did not meet in a championship game was in the 2015 World Sled Hockey Challenge, when the U.S. and Russia met in a rematch of the gold medal game of the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games, which the U.S. won, 1-0.

TIED AT FIVE
The United States and Canada are the only two teams to have won the World Sled Hockey Challenge, with both teams claiming five wins apiece. Overall, the U.S. has made seven WSHC finals while Canada has reached the title game all but once, when it finished third at the 2015 WSHC in Leduc, Alberta.

LEADING THE WAY
Entering today's championship game, a U.S. player is leading every statistical category at this year's World Sled Hockey Challenge. Among the skaters, Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) ranks first in goals (6), assists (7) and points (13) while Jen Lee (San Francisco, Calif.) has a tournament best 0.67 goals against average and Steve Cash (Overland, Mo.) leads all goaltenders with a 0.933 save percentage.
Also cracking the top five in tournament statistics are Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.), who is second or tied for second in points (10), goals (5) and assists (5); Kevin McKee (Chicago, Ill.) is fifth in points (8); Cash is second in goals against average (1.33) and Lee is second in save percentage (0.923).
As a team, the U.S. has a tournament-best 28 goals for and three goals against.
