For the U.S. National Junior Team, the journey towards the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, set for Dec. 26, 2017 - Jan. 5, 2018, in Buffalo, New York, began in Columbus on Dec. 14. After five days of training camp, the team relocated to Jamestown, New York, where it played a pre-tournament game against Belarus on Dec. 20 (W, 14-0). The team then trained in Jamestown before edging Sweden by a 3-1 count in its final pre-tournament game against Sweden on Dec. 22 in Erie, Pennsylvania. After the game, the team traveled to Buffalo, New York, ahead of the tournament's opening day on Dec. 26.
