BYE, BYE, BYE
The U.S. has never played in a quarterfinal contest in IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship history, having earned a bye to the semifinal round in all 10 of the previous competitions. With a win, the U.S. would clinch a bye to the semifinals and the top seed in Group A. Team USA would also earn a bye with an overtime loss or if Russia fails to top Sweden in regulation.
BACK-TO-BACK WINS
Eight players collected points as Team USA defeated Russia, 5-3, on Sunday (Jan. 7) for its second win in as many days to open the competition. The U.S. effort was fueled by four power-play goals in the opening period. For a complete game recap, highlights & postgame comments from the contest, click here.
