WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla.Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.), Amanda Pelkey (Montpelier, Vt.) and Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson (Grand Forks, N.D.) scored third-period goals as Team USA topped Team NWHL, 3-0, in the opening game of the weekend exhibition series here tonight at Florida Hospital Center Ice.

The U.S. got off to a strong start with several scoring chances, perhaps the best coming 7:55 into the game when Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) came streaking down the right side, feeding a pass in front to Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.) who put one on net, but she was stopped by the NWHL netminder. Despite putting 12 shots on goal during the first period, the U.S. could not find the back of the net and the period ended scoreless.

Just 1:14 into the second period, Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Grand Forks, N.D.) had a chance with a shot from the top of the crease, but was not able to convert. With 11:16 left in the second frame, Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) fired a shot from the left face-off circle, but was turned away by the NWHL netminder. Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) gathered the rebound and put another shot on net, but was not able to score. After 40 minutes, the game remained scoreless.

The U.S. got on the board 2:08 into the third period when Marvin gathered the puck on the half boards, skated it toward the net and ripped a shot past the NWHL goaltender from the bottom of the right face-off circle to give the U.S. a 1-0 lead. With 7:19 remaining in the game, Pelkey scored a short-handed goal after forcing a turnover at the defensive blue line, doubling the U.S. advantage. With 3:18 remaining, Lamoureux-Davidson caught a cross-ice pass from Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.), fired a shot past the NWHL goaltender and scored, accounting for the 3-0 final.

Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) earned a shutout, stopping all 14 shots that she faced from Team NWHL.
