Gameday: U.S. Faces Japan in Second Game of 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey Tournament

The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team faces Japan in its second game of the 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament here in Turin, Italy. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m. local time/10 a.m. ET.
    Team USA is 22-3-0-4-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time against Japan. The two teams last met at the 2012 International Paralympic Committee Sled Hockey World Championship, where the U.S. skated to a 5-0 shutout victory, marking its 14th straight victory over Japan and 25th win in 29 meetings between the two nations.

Prior to today's game, Team USA captain Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.) took over the U.S. Paralympics instagram account to show fans what a gameday is like for the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team ... Last night, several members of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team took in the Italian Series A meeting between Juventus and Genoa, which ended in the local squad, Juventus, claiming a 1-0 win ... On Sunday (Jan. 21), Jim Johannson, assistant executive director of USA Hockey and the general manager of the 2018 U.S. Olympic men’s ice hockey team, passed away in his sleep at his home in Colorado Springs ... Guy Gosselin (Grafton, Wis.), who led Team USA to a silver medal at the 2017 Para Sled Hockey World Championship in Gangneung, South Korea, is serving as head coach ... Team USA arrived in Turin, Italy, last Thursday, Jan. 19.

Yesterday, Josh Misiewicz (La Grange, Ill.) and Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) each tallied a goal and an assist as the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team topped Italy, 6-0, in its first game of the 2018 Turin Para Ice Hockey International Tournament at the Palaghiaccio Tazzoli.
     Noah Grove (Frederick, Md.) and Nikko Landeros (Johnstown, Colo.) each added second period goals while Travis Dodson (Deming, N.M.) and Ralph DeQuebec (San Pedro, Calif.) each tallied their first goals as members of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.
     “I thought we got better as the game went on and did what we needed to do to get the win,” said Guy Gosselin, head coach of the 2018 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. “Their goalie played extremely well, but credit to our guys for persevering and getting this hard-earned win. We’ll rest up tonight and get ready for tomorrow’s game against Japan.”

2018 U.S. PARALYMPIC ROSTER UNVEILED JANUARY 1, 2018
On January 1, 2018, the 2018 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Roster was unveiled during the second intermission of the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citi Field in New York City.
    The 17-player roster includes 10 players who won the gold medal at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games as well as four players (Steve Cash, Nikko Landeros, Adam Page, Josh Pauls) who have won two Paralympic gold medals (2010 - Vancouver, 2014 - Sochi). Cash also earned a bronze medal at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games here in Torino, Italy.
    On site for the announcement was general manager Dan Brennan (Colorado Springs, Colo.), captain Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.), alternate captain Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.), goaltender Steve Cash(Overland, Mo.) and forward Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.).

CHICAGO RESIDENCY PROGRAM UNDERWAY
On Jan. 8, 2018, the U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team relocated to Chicago where it will live and train as a team until the Paralympic Winter Games this March. The team will utilize ice time at West Meadows Ice Rink in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.
