Men's Team -- Day 14

It was all business today and tonight for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Hockey Team.

Team USA faced a do-or-die qualification-round game against Slovakia at 12 noon, with the loser going home and the winner advancing to tomorrow’s quarterfinal round against the Czech Republic. Thanks in part to a pair of goals from Ryan Donato and three assists from Troy Terry, as well as a strong defensive performance, the U.S. earned a 5-1 win and has a chance now to earn a semifinal berth with a win over the Czech Republic tomorrow.

After the game, some members of the U.S. ski and snowboard team – including Arielle Gold and Faye Gulini – visited Team USA’s lockerroom. Gold won a bronze medal in the snowboard halfpipe competition on Feb. 13.

The U.S. had a late lunch after its game back near the Olympic athlete's village and returned to their rooms for rest. They gathered for a team meeting in preparation for tomorrow’s game vs. the Czech Republic at 7:30 p.m., prior to an 8 p.m. team dinner. Rest and relaxation followed dinner.

Tomorrow's game against the Czech Republic is set for 12:10 p.m. local time (10:10 p.m. ET on Feb. 19) and can be seen live on NBCSN and streamed live at

Women's Team -- Day 18

The U.S. women enjoyed an off-day today, but many took the opportunity to go out and cheer on the U.S. men as they faced Slovakia in the qualification round, and some even squeezed in some interviews.

Players spent some time this afternoon in Gangneung checking out events, including the figure skating ice dancing finals and the U.S. men’s hockey game against Slovakia.

Multiple U.S. players got a chance to take part in some television interviews today, beginning with Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) and Gigi Marvin (Warroad, Minn.), who chatted with Liam McHugh of NBCSN today outside on their synthetic ice set near the hockey venue. Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Grand Forks, N.D.) sat down with ESPN’s Julie Foudy, and Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) and Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) chatted with NBC’s Kate Snow at the athlete village.

TAKE FIVE: Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.)

Favorite Place to Travel: I went to Australia for study abroad and I loved it.

Summer Olympic Sport She’d Like to Try: Soccer would have been cool. When I was growing up and playing soccer, I actually used to want to be a soccer player, so that would have been a childhood dream fulfilled. I always wonder what I would have been like as a soccer player.

A Perfect Off-Day: Just relaxing, sleeping in as late as possible and not having a schedule to follow.

Favorite TV Shows: Gossip Girl, Greys Anatomy and Friends

Personal Motto: Pressure is a privilege.

Men's Team

Team USA practiced this morning at the Gangneung Hockey Centre practice rink. The team did not learn until just before midnight last night of their final assigned practice time and game schedule for the qualification round.

The U.S. practice lasted just about an hour in preparation for tomorrow’s game against Slovakia. It will be the second meeting between the two teams in four days, with the winner taking on the Czech Republic on Feb. 21 in quarterfinal round play.

About half of Team USA’s players talked to media in the mixed zone after the practice, along with head coach Tony Granato.

Some of the players and staff attended the U.S. women’s semifinal matchup against Finland, which the U.S. won by a 5-0 count to advance to the gold-medal game.

Team USA met in the early evening, followed by a team dinner.
