The U.S. National Junior Team went 1-3-1 (W-L-T) and finished in seventh place at the 1980 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship in Helsinki, Finland.

The U.S. was led by goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck, who went on to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2007.
