The U.S. Men's National Team captured the bronze medal at the 2013 IIHF Men's World Championship, earning Team USA's first medal at the event since 2004. Team USA posted a final record of 6-1-0-3 (W-OTW-OTL-L). After placing third in the preliminary round, the U.S. topped Russia, 8-3, in the quarterfinals before falling to Switzerland, 3-0, in the semifinals. Team USA bounced back to defeat Finland, 3-2, in a shootout highlighted by Alex Galchenyuk's heroics. Overall, captain Paul Stastny led the team seven goals and 15 points. Craig Smith notched a team-best 10 assists and had 14 points. Goaltender John Gibson played all three playoff games and for the tournament earned a 3-1-0-1 record, 1.56 goals against average, .951 save percentage and one shutout.
