2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games Men's Tournament

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH | FEB. 8-24

In the first Olympic Winter Games on U.S. soil since the 1980 Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, N.Y., Team USA did not disappoint the home crowd. After blanking Finland, 6-0, in Team USA’s first game, the U.S. tied Russia, 2-2, before garnering an 8-1 victory against Belarus to close out preliminary-round play.  After defeating Germany, 5-0, in the quarterfinal round, the U.S. knocked off Russia, 3-2, in a rematch in the semifinals. In a hard-fought gold-medal game, the U.S. dropped a 5-2 decision to Canada to claim the silver medal, the United States’ first medal since winning gold in 1980.
