The 2019 World Junior A Challenge was held in Dawson Creek, British Columbia from December 7-15, 2019. The 2019 U.S. Junior Select Team, which is comprised of players that compete in junior hockey leagues across the United States, competed against Canada East, Canada West, Czech Republic and Russia.
Team USA won all of its four preliminary round games, including a 5-4 overtime win over the Czech Republic, before falling to Canada East in the semifinals. In the third-place game, U.S. forward Trevor Kuntar scored in overtime to defeat the Czech Republic for a second time and solidify Team USA's 13th all-time medal in World Junior A Challenge play.
