The 2024 IIHF Men's World Championship took place May 10-26, in Ostrava & Prague, Czechia. Team USA finished in fifth place and had a 5-0-1-2 record in its eight games. The U.S. had its medal hopes end at the hands of the host Czechs in a 1-0 quarterfinal loss before a sellout crowd of 17,413 at Prague Arena.
Team USA finished second in Group B in the preliminary round with a 5-0-1-1 record with games against France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Poland, Sweden and Slovakia. As it was established prior to the tournament that, if qualified, the Czechs would play its quarterfinal game in Prague, despite a higher group finish, the U.S. had to pack up and move to Prague and face Czechia, which finished third in Group A.
In total, the U.S. has earned 13 podium finishes, including one gold medal (1933), four silver medals (1950, 1939, 1934, 1931) and eight bronze medals (2021, 2018, 2015, 2013, 2004, 1996, 1952, 1949).
