- Son of Jim Hughes and Ellen Weinberg-Hughes
- Has two brothers, Jack and Luke
- Father, Jim, skated at Providence College and went on to represent the U.S. in the Spengler Cup (1988-89)
- Mother, Ellen, lettered in hockey, lacrosse and soccer at the University of New Hampshire before earning a silver medal with the 1992 U.S. Women's National Team. Currently the Player Development Consultant with the U.S. Women's National Team
- Brother, Jack, currently with the New Jersey Devils
- Jack skated for the 2019 U.S. Men's National Team and 2019 U.S. National Junior Team, along with 2018 U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team that earned a silver medal at the 2018 IIHF Under-18 Men's World Championship. Jack was named Tournament MVP and Best Forward by the Directorate
- Brother Luke, currently with the New Jersey Devils
- Luke skated as a member of the 2024 and U.S. Men's National Team as well as the 2023 and 2022 U.S. National Junior Team. Spent two seasons with the University of Michigan (2021-23) and USA Hockey National Team Development Program (2019-21).
- Uncle, Marty, played hockey for Boston College for four seasons (1997-01) where he won an NCAA championship in 2001
- Cousin, Ted Doherty, skated four seasons (2012-16) at Boston College and served as captain his senior year
