TORONTO – Team USA will open the World Cup of Hockey 2016 here today against Team Europe. Opening faceoff at Air Canada Centre is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on ESPN2.

The U.S. won two of its three pre-tournament games, including a 3-2 victory over Finland in its last outing on Tuesday (Sept. 13) at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.

Jonathan Quick will get the call in goal today for the U.S. He was the goaltender of record in Team USA’s two pre-tournament wins. Quick made 32 saves on 33 shots in two periods of action in a 4-2 win over Canada on Sept. 9 in Columbus, Ohio, where he was named the #1 star. He played the entire game on Tuesday (Sept. 13) in Washington, D.C., and stopped 30 of 32 shots in a 3-2 victory over Finland. Quick played in five of Team USA’s six games at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games and was 3-2-0 with a 2.17 goals against average and .923 save percentage.
