Team USA hosted Canada at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan, on Saturday (Dec. 19) as part of the first-ever Team USA Winter Champions Series. Despite outshooting Canada, 37-22, and leading 3-1 in that game, the U.S. allowed four unanswered goals and fell, 5-3.

Hilary Knight and Brianna Decker were heavily involved in Team USA’s offensive game on Saturday. Decker notched a pair of goals and Knight registered three points (one goal, two assists). Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson added a pair of assists in the contest. Monique Lamoureux-Davidson and Kendall Coyne also had assists in the game.

Defenseman Cayla Barnes is expected to make her debut with the U.S. Women’s National Team after earning a spot on the roster during the USA Hockey Winter Training Camp. Barnes was named to the U.S. Women's National Under-18 Team earlier this month and will represent Team USA in the Czech Republic in January.

In addition to the training camp, the pair of games between the two teams will also serve as part of the evaluation process  to help select a roster for the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship that will be held at USA Hockey Arena from March 31 to April 7.
