Less than two weeks ago, defenseman Cayla Barnes (Corona, Calif.) was named to her third U.S Women’s National Under-18 Team and will soon head to Zlin, Czech Republic, to compete for her third gold medal at the IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Before she can turn her attention to that, however, she has a more pressing focus at the moment.

Earlier this week, Barnes was named to the U.S. Women’s National Team for a two-game series against Canada. Barnes learned earlier today that she will be in the lineup for tonight’s 7 p.m. matchup at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, Ontario.

As a veteran on the U18 squad, Barnes is adjusting to a different role as she learns from the older players she will compete alongside tonight. While she admitted there are a few nerves, she said her teammates calmed her by assuring her to go out there and just play her game.

“They said just to have fun, be excited, play loose and to play the way I normally do and it’ll be fine,” Barnes said.
