The U.S. was back on the ice today in its final game of the preliminary round against Canada at the Kwandong Hockey Centre. Despite falling, 2-1, the U.S. took some positive away from the game, including having put 45 shots on goal.

“We had a lot of tenacity and we were pretty relentless today,” said Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) “I think it shows with the amount of chances we had in the game. Our ability to get that many shots in the game is outstanding and it’s something we’re really focusing on.”

Kendall Coyne (Palos Heights, Ill.) netted the team’s lone goal, assisted by Brianna Decker (Dousman, Wis.). Maddie Rooney (Andover, Minn.) stopped 21 of 23 shots in her second appearance in the tournament.

WOULDN’T BE HERE WITHOUT…
Each of the 23 players on the roster have worked their entire lives for the chance to compete at the Olympics, and behind each player there is a “team behind the team” that has helped them along the way. Here’s a look at who some players say has been the most influential throughout their careers…

Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.): My mom and dad have been there since day one supporting me and giving me the best advice I could get. They raised me to make the right decisions and to be a better person every day and work your butt off while doing it.

Amanda Pelkey (Montpelier, Vt.): My parents. My dad has grown up around the sport. His entire family played hockey. He's very knowledgeable about the game and has helped me every step of the way. My mom is my support system and my rock.

Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.): I can’t say one person. It has truly been a collaboration of people that have helped me achieve my dreams. My family has played a huge role but my high school coach and my college coaches also really shaped me as a player and a person. All of these people pushed me in many different ways but always supported me as much as possible.
