GAME PREP
Team USA’s equipment and medical staff arrived at Gangneung Hockey Centre at 7:30 a.m. to prepare for today’s game. While much of the dressing room was set last night before they departed for the day, plenty was still left to be accomplished. From sewing and skate sharpening to putting out game jerseys, distributing laundry getting all the medical and team supplies in order and ready for a game, it is an involved process that includes equipment managers Scott Aldrich and Bert Godin; athletic trainers Stan Wong and Chris Mizer; massage therapist Peewee Willmann; and team doctor Phil Johnson.
POST-GAME
After Team USA’s 2-1 win over Slovakia today, the game puck was presented to Jim Johannson’s wife Abby and his two-year-old daughter Ellie in Team USA’s lockerroom. Johannson, the general manager of the 2018 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Jan. 21, 2018, at his home in Colorado Springs, Colo. Also, Johannson’s brother John presented the U.S. player of the game award to forward Ryan Donato.
