  • Son of John and Polly Gruden
  • Brother to Kaitlin and Elizabeth
  • Father, John Gruden, previously served as an assistant coach at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program including helping win two gold medals (2014, 2012) and one bronze (2016) at the Under-18 Men's World Championship. John went on to coach the Hamilton Bulldogs (OHL) to an OHL Championship in 2017-18. John currently serves as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders (NHL). Prior to his coaching career, John played four seasons (1990-94) with Ferris State University after completing one season (1989-90) with the Waterloo Black Hawks (USHL). John went on to play five seasons in the NHL including one appearance for Team USA at the Men's World Championship in 2013.
