Today was a mock-gameday for the USWNT, which spent the day preparing for a scrimmage against a local team in the afternoon.

MORNING ROUTINE
The players split off into two separate groups this morning for a “stim lift” session with their strength and conditioning coach. The “stim lift” – short for “stimulation” – is designed to help stimulate the nervous system in the morning when there’s a game later in the day.

SCRIMMAGE TIME
Today was the first time the U.S. women suited up as a team, playing a scrimmage game against a local boys’ team, the New York Jr. Islanders. After 60 minutes of play, though the U.S. women were winning 7-1, they took the opportunity after the final whistle to practice a shoot-out scenario and the fans loved it.

SPECIAL GUEST
NBC’s Kathryn Tappen stopped by the Northwell Health Ice Center today to take in some of the action during the women’s scrimmage. She stuck around after the game and caught up with Kendall Coyne Schofield (Palos Heights, Ill.), Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) and Lee Stecklein (Roseville, Minn.) for an interview for an upcoming On Her Turf podcast.
