Annie Pankowski (Laguna Hills, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal in the second period as the U.S. prevailed over Canada, 3-2, here tonight in its second game of preliminary-round play at the 2019 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

“Any time these two teams get together and play, it comes down to executing the little things, making good decisions and winning the special teams battle,” said Bob Corkum (Salisbury, Mass.), head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team. “I was proud of the effort tonight by both our penalty-kill and power-play units. We’re certainly happy to walk away with this win.”

Rigsby made 31 saves in net to seal the win for Team USA and Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.) was named U.S. Player of the Game.

The U.S. (2-0-0-0/W-OTW-OTL-L) continues preliminary-round play tomorrow (Sunday) against Switzerland at 12:30 p.m. ET. That game, along with every U.S. tournament game, will be televised live in the United States on NHL Network.
