WE MADE IT

Yesterday (Dec. 18), the U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team departed Newark for Vienna, Austria to begin a 16-day trip overseas for the 2020 IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship. After an eight-hour flight, players and staff arrived in Vienna this morning, grabbed luggage and hockey bags, and boarded a bus that took the team an hour and a half from the airport to Pezinok, Slovakia, where the U.S. will train for the next few days ahead of the start of the tournament in Bratislava. The players ate a quick lunch then hit the ice at the local arena to wake up the legs after a long travel day.

FOOD, GLORIOUS, FOOD

Traveling to a different country means getting accustomed to different foods and a different culture surrounding meals. In Slovakia, lunch is the considered the largest or most important meal of the day, so nutritionist Shannon Boguth had many delicious dishes to choose from when selecting today’s meal. Team and staff enjoyed an array of food at the hotel in Penizok, including falafel, roasted chicken, couscous, steamed cabbage, beef stew, potato latkes and leek soup. Every bit of it was delicious!
