The United States dropped its 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship quarterfinal game to Finland, 1-0, today at Werk Arena. The result ends the U.S. all-time best medal streak at four consecutive years.
“I thought this group that we have was growing, but tonight we were chasing the game and didn’t have it,” said head coach Scott Sandelin (Hibbing, Minn.). “There are some guys in there who will have a chance at this again, I hope they all learn from it moving forward.”
Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) was named the player of the game for the United State. Knight, Shane Pinto (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Trevor Zegras (Bedford, N.Y.) were named the Top-3 Players for the U.S. Zegras finished T-4th in U.S. single tournament history with nine assists.
