U.S. wins gold in 2019, 10 years after first-ever world title, also in Ostrava

The 2019 U.S. National Sled Team's world championship notebook includes daily entries of Team USA's journey to its gold-medal finish. The journey begins on April 22 in Newark, New Jersey, and concludes in Ostrava, Czech Republic

Departure Day: May 5

After spending nearly two in the Czech Republic, the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team returns home as world champions.
"I think the biggest thing here was the team we had," said David Hoff, head coach of the 2018-19 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. "Every day, whether it was here in Ostrava or in Canada or Charlotte or Wisconsin, every day, they'd come in for lunch, and sit down and sit there, sit there and sit there. Why? Because they liked spending time with each other; and you don't always get that. That's a special thing this team had and I think every one of us appreciated it. And this win makes the trip home a lot better."

U.S. TOURNAMENT RECAP
The United States went undefeated behind a 4-1-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record to capture its fourth gold medal in world championship history. The U.S. skated with a perfect 3-0 record in Group A. It opened with a 3-1 victory over rival Canada on April 27 before blanking South Korea, 4-0, the following day to clinch Group A. With a semifinal berth secured, the U.S. closed group play with a 10-0 victory over Norway. After topping the host nation, Czech Republic, by a 10-2 count on May 3, it came from behind three different times to defeat Canada, 3-2, in overtime in the gold-medal game. OSTRAVA 2019, 2009
Team USA's gold-medal win marked the second time the United States skated away with a gold-medal win with the tournament taking place in Ostrava. In 2009, the event ended with the U.S. capturing its first-ever world championship title in a 1-0 victory over Norway, before an overtime goal by Brody Roybal gave the United States its fourth world championship title. In 10 games across the two tournaments, the U.S. went 7-2-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L), with its lone blemish being a 2-1 preliminary-round setback to Norway.
