U.S. scores three unanswered goals in third period

After going into the third period tied at two, Team USA scored three consecutive goals in the third period and defeated Canada, 5-2, in its second contest of the three-game development series here at Aréna Howie-Morenz.

“After watching the success of our national sled hockey team in the World Championships, we wanted to follow it up with a strong performance against Canada tonight," said Kip St. Germaine, head coach of the U.S. Men's Development Sled Team.  "Our players responded. We still have work to do and we will be ready to go back at it tomorrow.”

Canada opened the scoring at the 8:56 mark of the first period, but Team USA answered shortly after.

Just 4:36 after Canada's game-opening goal, Dan Malloy (Bowie, Md.) tied the contest at one. Malloy collected a pass from Christian Storms (Jamestown, N.Y.) and fired a shot into the back of the net. Ben Musselman (Amelia, Ohio) picked up the secondary assist on Malloy's game-tying goal.

After a hooking penalty to Canada at the 1:45 mark of the second period sent the U.S. to the power play, Team USA scored with the man advantage to take a 2-1 lead.

Storms collected the puck before passing to Joseph Woodke (Nashville, Tenn.), who scored to give the U.S. the lead.

Canada answered at the 14-minute mark of the second period to tie the game heading into the third period.

Team USA got on the board immediately to start the third period to take the 3-2 lead.
