U.S. sweeps series; Eustace and Easley each record three points

David Eustace (Stoneham, Mass.) and Rob Easley (Niceville, Fla.) recorded three points apiece as Team USA defeated Canada, 4-1, to complete the sweep of its three-game development series here at Aréna Howie-Morenz.

“I’m really happy for the players and all their success in Montreal," said Kip St. Germaine, head coach of the U.S. Men's Development Sled Team. "They came together as a team and overcame the challenges thrown our way to get the sweep. It was a great season and I look forward to what comes next.”

Canada opened the scoring at the 9:07 mark after the U.S. was whistled for a holding penalty that gave the Canadians a power play.

However, after falling behind by one, Team USA responded quickly. Just 4:21 after Canada's game-opening power play goal, Christian Storms (Jamestown, N.Y.) took a pass from Ben Maenza (Brentwood, Tenn.) before tying the game at one. Eustace picked up a secondary assist on the goal by Storms.

Storms' goal came with 1:32 remaining in the period and both teams went to the locker room with the score knotted at one. The U.S. outshot Canada, 13-3, in the opening frame.

After the two teams exchanged chances throughout the second period, Team USA capitalized to take the 2-1 lead. Canada was assessed a holding penalty at the 10:35 mark and Joseph Woodke (Nashville, Tenn.) gave the U.S. the lead with 47 seconds remaining on the power play. Easley picked up his first point of the day on Woodke's goal after collecting the lone assist.

The U.S. outshot Canada, 5-3, in the second period and carried a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

Canada and Team USA continued to trade chances throughout the first half of the third period before Eustace scored his first goal of the contest to put the U.S. up by two.

Taking a pass from Harrison Burgess (Upper St. Clair, Pa.), Eustace fired a shot that found the back of the net. The goal was Eustace's third of the series. Easley picked up the secondary assist for his second point of the game.

Just eight seconds later, Eustace scored his second goal of the game and fourth of the series. Similar to Eustace's first goal, Burgess and Easley both picked up assists.

With the goal, Eustace recorded his third point of the contest and with the secondary assist, Easley did the same.

Kyle Huckaby (Port Arthor, Texas) made nine saves on 10 shots for Team USA.

With the victory, Team USA swept the three-game series, outscoring the Canadians, 12-5, over the three games.
