Teams have two more games before All-Star game

It's day four of the USA Hockey Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp. Each team played their third game as we get closer to the selection of the All-Star game on Monday. All of the scores and summaries can be found below.

Off the ice, teams are continuing their team bonding activities and showing off their various talents. One player with a very unique set of skills is Christian Jimenez from Team Kelly. Currently participating in his third player development camp, Jimenez can play three instruments: the guitar, piano and violin. He also possesses a skill that very few others can claim, and you can watch his "puzzling" feat.

What a Puzzle!

USA Hockey director of youth hockey Kenny Rausch also did a presentation for the teams on USA Hockey pride. In the inspiring presentation, the players were asked what they are playing for, and what their goals are. Rausch also talked about the fact that there is no single path to play at the highest level. In a camp with 180 skaters, only 22 will make the Hlinka Gretzky Cup team, but Rausch told the kids that if they did not make the team, it did not mean that they weren't going to go on and have great hockey careers, and provided examples of a number of successful NHL players that did not make this team.

Today's Games

Kelly 5, White 1: Team Kelly got off to a quick start this morning. Maxwell Tobin, Isaac Novak and Carter Mazur scored three quick goals before Owen Michaels responded with the only White goal. Noah Tussey and Tanner Dickinson added goals for Kelly in the second frame. Remington Keopple made 29 stops in net.

Columbia 4, Navy 3: Columbia scored twice in the second frame to stay undefeated. Victor Czerneckianair, Mitchell Smith, Hunter McDonald and Johnny Meiers were the goal scorers for Columbia. Patrick Schmiedlin scored twice for Team Navy, while Kyle Contessa added the other goal.

Red 4, Forest 0: Alexander Teleguine scored twice as Red stayed undefeated for the week. Kienan Draper and Jonathan Horn also scored for Red. Horn also added an assist, while Louden Hogg stopped all 30 shots that he faced.

Black 6, Grey 3: Three players accounted for all six Black goals today, as they earned their first victory. Antonio Stranges, Ryan Beck and Nate Hanley all recorded multi-goal performances. On the grey side, Dominic James, Carson Bantle and Charles Whitehead were the goal scorers.

Royal 7, Gold 1: Matthew Coronato recorded a hat trick as Team Royal defeated Goal 7-1. David Sacco added two more goals for Royal, while Cameron Berg and Mark Estapa also scored. Aidan Campbell made 23 saves. Peter Kramer scored the lone goal for Gold.

Staff Spotlight: Justin Penna

Justin Penna is working his third USA Hockey Player Development Camp. He is the equipment manager at Western Michigan University, and is one of the five equipment managers on staff here in Amherst.

His primary responsibility is to make sure that all of the equipment needs are met for the 180 players at camp, including sharpening skates, equipment repairs and making sure all of the laundry is done each day.

"It's a great time with all of the different people you get to spend the week with," he said. "I get to interact with all the coaches and equipment managers that I don't get to see that often. Plus, the caliber of hockey that you see in these kids, and seeing how they have progressed over the years and trying to see them make the Hlinka team."
