White claims camp title with 7-3 win over Light Blue

The final slate of games at the 2019 Girls 16/17 Player Development Camp got underway at 12:45 p.m. today. The matchups were determined based on the standings following pool play, which included three games for each team.

The games were the last opportunity for the players to impress the coaches and evaluation staff that are selecting the players that will advance to the Girls U18 Select Camp, which is being held July 15-21 here in St. Cloud.

With all on-ice sessions wrapped up, campers and staff will participate in an all-camp challenge in the morning before attending the final meeting where the players advancing to the U18 Select Camp will be announced.

Today's Games

Championship Game: White 7, Light Blue 3
Light Blue jumped in the lead in the opening minute on a goal from Emma Thomas, but White rattled off three-straight from Addison Carr, Evelyne Blais-Savoie and Morgan Nietzke to grab a 3-1 advantage through 16 minutes. Light Blue's Rachel Golnitz scored to cut it to 3-2, before Madelynn Jablonski and Mallory Mauracher found the back of the net to give White a 5-2 lead at the break.

Nietzke scored her second of the night at the 9:25 mark of the second half to increase the lead to 6-2. Grace Kuipers cut into the lead at 14:24 of the second frame before White's Madelyn Christian scored a late goal to account for the 7-3 final.

Third-Place Game: Black 3, Royal 2 (SO)
In what was today's third consecutive game that needed extra time, Black overcame a one-goal deficit in the final minute of the second half before claiming third place via the shootout. Kylie Roberts gave Black an early lead in the first half before Royal's Marki Oberg evened the score at the 17:49 mark.

Royal then took the lead just over four minutes into the second half on a goal by Ellie Reiter. With just 20 seconds to play, Roberts scored her second goal of the game to force overtime and eventually a shootout. After the previous nine shooters failed to convert, Black's Hanna Baskin made a slick move to her backhand to win the game.

Fifth-Place Game: Gold 4, Red 3 (OT)
In the second game of the day, Gold came from behind to finish in fifth place at camp. Red's Lily Martinson opened the scoring 16 seconds into the game. Four minute's later, Madison Garberding doubled the lead. Gold's Emma Schmitz cut the lead in half at the 19:08 mark of the first half.

Gold's Ivey Lyden tied the game in the opening minute of the second half, linking up with Calli Forsberg. Ashley Clark gave Red the lead at the 11:25 mark, but Forsberg netted the equalizer for Gold less than a minute later. In the opening seconds of overtime, Sophia Kennedy buried the game-winner for Gold.

Seventh-Place Game: Navy 4, Gray 3 (OT)
Claire Sammons scored twice in the first 7:07 of the game to give Navy an early two-goal advantage. Jessica Ciarrocchi and Kaley MacDonald assisted on the first tally, while Carly Lancaster picked up a helper on the second. Veronica Bac scored at the 8:21 mark to get Gray on the board before Navy’s Maren Friday made it 3-1 to close out the opening half.

Gray battled back to tie the game in the second half with goals from Tristana Tatur and Mackenzie Bourgerie. Just 20 seconds into the overtime period, McKenzie Rich found the back of the net off an assist from Ciarrocchi to give Navy the victory.
