Day 3 of Boys Select 16 PDC continues at Northtown Center

As we enter Day 3 of competition here at the 2019 Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp, just two teams remain undefeated: Team Navy and Team Royal. Team Navy has captured its two wins in regulation, topping Team Gold by a 7-3 margin before edging Team Red, 6-4. Team Royal has needed a shootout in both of its wins, first defeating Team Red, 4-3, before taking care of Team White, 6-5.
Today's action continues at 10:45 a.m. ET when Team Kelly takes on Team White. Team Navy leads the American Division with 6 points in two games while Team White's four points tops all teams in the National Division.

REPRESENTING TEAM USA
Kenny Rausch, USA Hockey's director of youth hockey, will conduct two presentations today on USA Hockey pride. In a camp of 180 players, only 20 will be able to represent the United States at the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament next month. While each national and select team has limited roster spots, each year brings a different opportunity. As such, Rausch explained how there is no single path to play at the highest level. Making the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team does not guarantee anything for one's future. Each player has the opportunity to learn from their experiences this week to continue their development in hockey, whether that reaches college, professional or international ranks.

CAMP LEADERS ENTERING DAY 3
Team Navy forward Bennett Schimek leads all skaters with seven points (3G, 4A); Jack Silich of Team Forest has an event-best four goals; four players are tied with four assists apiece; and in goal, Team Columbia's Anton Castro leads all netminders with a .950 save percentage. Castro and Team Navy's Will Fox share the camp lead with a 1.20 goals against average.

ARIZONA NATIVE TURNS HEADS WITH SHOOTOUT TALLY
With the score knotted 5-5, Team Royal and Team White entered a decisive shootout. There, David Hymovitch drew an impressive cheer when he skated in on goal, slipped the puck between his legs and kicked it across the crease before tapping it past the outstretched goaltender. To catch the Phoenix, Arizona native's move, watch the video here.

IN THE SPOTLIGHT
Team Navy forward Bennett Schimek had an exceptional performance en route to a 6-5 win over Team Red, tallying two goals (including the game-winner) and two assists to lead the team with four points. Team Red forward Connor Mahony had two goals and three points in the loss.
Elsewhere at the camp, Team Royal defenseman Tyler Desrochers dished out three assists and forward Kenny Connors notched the game-winning shootout tally to give Team Royal a 6-5 victory over Team White. Team Columbia goaltender Anton Castro stopped all 12 shots he faced to help secure a 5-2 win over Team Kelly. In the final game of the day, Michael Salandra scored in regulation and then scored the eventual game-winner in the shootout to give Team Gold a hard-fought 2-1 shootout win over Team Black.

NHL BLOODLINES
A number of players taking part in the Boys Select 16 Player Development Camp have family ties to NHL players, coaches or executives. Team Grey forward Jackson Morehouse is the son of Pittsburgh Penguins chief executive officer and president, David Morehouse. During Morehouse's time as president and CEO, the Penguins have won three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, 2017) and reached four Cup Finals. The upcoming 2019-20 NHL season will mark Morehouse's 11th year with the Penguins.

ALL-STAR GAME
Each year, USA Hockey Player Development Camps culminate in an All-Star game featuring the camp's top talent from the week. Following the conclusion of Friday's games, All-Star Teams will be announced and the two squads will face off Saturday at the Olympic Rink at 10 a.m. ET. Following the game, the staff of the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team will unveil the roster for this year's entry in the 2019 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament set to take place next month in Fussen, Germany.
