Games Roll Along On Day 4 of Boys Select 15 PDC

Grey and Kelly lead the way with six points through two games

In a change of pace here at the Boys Select 15 Player Development Camp, the teams had a single ice session today. The second round of games started at 11:30 a.m. ET here in Amherst, N.Y., and continued into the evening.

Grey and Kelly are the only two teams who have picked up regulation wins through the first two games. Gold is also undefeated, but sit one point behind in the standings with a shootout win over Black today.

Navy 4, Red 3: Nick Pierre picked up the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play to give Navy the win. Hunter Brzustewicz, Charlie Leddy and Brady Berard also added goals for Navy, while Jeremiah Slavin picked up three assists. Goaltenders Benjamin Behrens and John Spicer combined for 31 saves on 34 shots. 

Grey 5, Royal 2: Grey used goals from Frank Nazar, Andon Cerbone, Vinny Borgesi and Zachary Cline to jump out to a 4-1 lead after the opening half. The teams exchanged goals in the closing half to account for the final. Cline also picked up two assists in the win for Grey. 

Gold 5, Black 4Goals from Gold's Luke Schelter and Frank D'Ancona in the final :26 of the game forced a shootout, where goaltender Dylan Silverstein stopped four of five attempts and Tyler Duke and Garret Brown scored to complete the comeback. Schelter, D'Ancona and Camron Vansickle all tallied two points in the win for Gold. 

Kelly 3, Purple 2: James Snuggerud led the way for Kelly with three points (2G, 1A), while Grant Babcock and Braxton Whitehead added two points each. Seth Bushey stopped all eight shots he faced and Lucas Szyszka made 14 saves on 16 shots. 

Forest 7, Orange 5Forest used a run of four straight goals after trailing 4-3 in the second half to earn the win. Jake Manfre picked up five points (2G, 3A), and Patrick Czarnecki and Jackson Ekblad added two points each. Colby Woogk, Merril Steenari, Nicholas Vantassell and Max Matthews also picked up goals for Forest. 

Columbia 2, White 0Columbia used goals from Bobby Landry and Tyler Stern to earn the win over White. Dominic Elliot, Michael Valdez and Gavin Brindley picked up helpers. Goaltenders Christian Manz and Harrison Fogel combined for 24 saves in the shutout win.

Stat Leaders Through Two Games
After the first two games, Frank Nazar (Grey) leads the camp in scoring with six points (3G, 3A). Noah Eyre (Kelly) and Evan Konyen (Royal) are tied for the lead in goals with four, while six players are tied at the top of the assists rankings with three each. Amongst goalies, Jeffrey Kreidler (Forest) leads the way with a .946 save percentage.

2019 Strelow Goaltending Camp
Before the Boys Select 15 Camp began, all 24 goalies attending camp arrived in Amherst, N.Y., three days early for the 2019 Strelow Goaltending Camp, where they received coaching from a top-notch set of twelve goaltending-specific staff members.

The change in format from previous years is part of the restructured approach for goaltending development in the U.S., which was announced in May. For more information on that, click here.


USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program
Today kicked off at 9 a.m. ET with a presentation on USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program led by director of player personnel Kevin Reiter. He spoke to the players about not only what it takes to get invited to join the program, but also about the passion and commitment needed to excel once selected.


Fitness Testing
Throughout the day, players were also put through a series of fitness tests. The evaluation included a vertical jump, broad jump, short sprint and a shuttle run, all used to evaluate each player's athletic ability and provide benchmarks for improvement in the upcoming the season.
