GAMEDAY: Under-18 and Under-22 Series Action Continues in Lake Placid

The 2019 U.S. Under-18 and Under-22 Women's Select Teams will be back in action for their second games of their respective three-game series against Canada tonight (Aug. 15) at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.

U18: USA vs. Canada

U18 GAMEDAY: The Under-18 Series vs. Canada has been held annually since 2007. After the 2018 event, the U.S. and Canada have now met 14 times at the U18 Series and Team USA holds a 14-2-4-16 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against its northern rival.

GAME 1 RECAP: Kathryn Davis (Meridian, Idaho) finished with three points (1G, 2A) and Danielle Burgen (Chisago Lakes, Minn.) notched two goals as the U.S. Under-18 Women's Select Team fell to Canada, 5-4, in game one of the 2019 Under-18 Series. Canada held a 3-2 lead after the first period with U.S. goals from Davis and Kiara Zanon (Rochester, N.Y.). Canada reclaimed a two goal lead late in the second period, but Burgen brought Team USA back to within one just minutes later to make the score 4-3 going into the third period. Despite Burgen adding another goal for Team USA in the third period, Canada took game one of the three-game series, 5-4. For the complete box score, click here.

50/50: The 22-player roster for the 2019 U.S. Under-18 Women's Select Team features exactly 11 newcomers and 11 seasoned U18 veteran players. Of those 11 returners, 10 of them played in the 2018 Under-18 Series against Canada in Calgary, Alberta. Four newcomers recorded at least one point in their Under-18 series debuts, including Kathryn Davis (Meridian, Idaho), Danielle Burgen (Chisago Lakes, Minn.), Lyndie Lobdell (Aurora, Ill.) and Peyton Hemp (Andover, Minn.).

2019 Under-18 Series

U22: USA vs. Canada

U22 GAMEDAY: The U.S. and Canada have met 16 times at the Under-22 Series and Team USA holds a 17-3-3-17-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record, not including yesterday's overtime win. The U22 Series been held every non-Olympic year since 1999.

Game 1 Recap: Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas) scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the U.S. Under-22 Select Team past Canada, 4-3, in game 1 of the three-game series. U.S. goaltender Emma Polusny (Mound, Minn.) recorded 28 saves to back Team USA to Wednesday night's victory. Team USA and Canada were tied 1-1 after the first period. Less than two minutes into the second period, Taylor Heise (Lake City, Minn.) gave the U.S. a 2-1 lead. Natalie Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) extended Team USA's lead to 3-1 midway through the third period off a one-timer set up by Grace Zumwinkle (Excelsior, Minn.), who finished the night with two points (1g, 1a). 

AYE AYE, CAPTAIN: Forward Sydney Brodt (North Oaks, Minn.) and defenseman and Olympic gold medalist Cayla Barnes (Eastvale, Calif.) are serving as co-captains of the 2019 U.S. Under-22 Women's Select Team. Both players helped Team USA capture its fifth consecutive gold medal at the International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in 2019 with a thrilling shootout win over Finland in the gold-medal game. Brodt and Barnes each earned an assist on Bilka's game-winning overtime goal in last night's game against Canada.
