GAMEDAY: U.S. and Canada Set to Play Final Games of U18 & U22 Series

Games to be held at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. ET; Stream live on HockeyTV.com

The 2019 U.S. Under-18 and Under-22 Women's Select Teams will close out their respective three-game series against Canada tonight (Aug. 17) at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in Lake Placid, New York.

U18: USA vs. Canada

U18 GAMEDAY: The Under-18 Series vs. Canada has been held annually since 2007. After the 2018 event, the U.S. and Canada have now met 14 times at the U18 Series and Team USA holds a 14-2-4-16 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against its northern rival.

Game 2 Recap: Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill.) scored the game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation and the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the U.S. Under-18 Select Team past Canada, 3-2, in game two of the series. Team USA outshot Canada 11-3 in the first period, but the game was scoreless after the opening 20 minutes. Canada took a 1-0 advantage heading into the third period, but Danielle Burgen (Chisago Lakes, Minn.) scored her third goal of the series to tie the game just over six minutes into the third off a pass from Peyton Hemp (Andover, Minn.). Canada scored with :49 left to play in the regulation to take a 2-1 advantage, but Murphy notched Team USA's second equalizer of the game with just two seconds left on the clock to force overtime. Just over a minute into the extra session, Murphy found the back of the net again with a slap shot from the top of the circle to secure the victory for Team USA. For the full box score, click here.

Behind the Bench: Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa), assistant coach of the Under-18 Women's Select Team and associate head women's ice hockey coach at the College of the Holy Cross, is experiencing Team USA from behind the bench for the first time. As a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, Roth played with the U.S. Under-22 Select Team, as well as at the 2003 International Ice Hockey Federation Women's World Championship in China.

2019 Under-18 Series


U22: USA vs. Canada

U22 GAMEDAY: The U.S. and Canada have met 16 times at the Under-22 Series and Team USA holds a 17-3-3-17-2 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) record, not including 2019 series games. The U22 Series been held every non-Olympic year since 1999.

Game 2 Recap: Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas) scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the third period as the U.S. Under-22 Select Team defeated Canada, 4-2, in game two of the series. This marks Bilka's second game-winning goal of the 2019 Under-22 Series. Canada took a 1-0 lead in the first period, but Presley Norby (Minnetonka, Minn.) tipped in a shot from Ally Simpson (Frisco, Texas) to tie the game with less than 10 minutes to play in the second period. Natalie Snodgrass (Eagan, Minn.) gave the U.S. a 2-1 lead two minutes into the third, but Canada answered less than five minutes later. With less than five minutes to play in the third, Bilka scored the game-winning goal to secure the victory for Team USA and Sydney Brodt (North Oaks, Minn.) tacked on an insurance goal three minutes later. Game-Winner: Hannah Bilka (Coppell, Texas) scored the game-winning goal in both games of the U22 series thus far. In Wednesday night's matchup with Canada, Bilka netted the game-winner in overtime to lift the U.S. Under-22 Select Team past Canada, 4-3, in game 1 of the three-game series. Then on Thursday night, Bilka secured game 2 for Team USA after she scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes to play in the third period.
