Sam Colangelo Added to 2019 U.S. Junior Select Team

World Junior A Challenge set for Dec. 7-15 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia

USA Hockey announced today that Sam Colangelo (Stoneham, Mass.) has been added to the 2019 U.S. Junior Select Team that will compete in the World Junior A Challenge from Dec. 7-15 in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. For a full roster, click here.

In his first full season with the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League, Colangelo has tallied 11 goals and 23 points in 18 games. The forward recorded three goals in 13 contests with the Steel during the 2018-19 season.

In addition, Colangelo took part in USA Hockey’s Select 16 and Select 17 Player Development camps, and competed as a member of the 2018 U.S. Under-18 Men’s Select Team at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, where he notched two goals in five games.

A Stoneham, Mass., native, Colangelo is committed to skate at Northeastern University for the 2020-21 season.

U.S. Roster

The U.S. will face Canada East in a pre-tournament game on Thursday, Dec. 5, at 9 p.m. ET before opening competition Saturday, Dec. 7, against Canada West at 9 p.m. ET.

NOTES: The 2019 roster now includes 22 players … Nine USHL teams are represented on the roster. The Chicago Steel lead the way with five players, while the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Tri-City Storm and Waterloo Blackhawks each have three players on the roster … The 22 players represent 14 different states. Minnesota has the most representatives with five … The World Junior A Challenge is in its 14th year, and the U.S. is competing for the 13th time … The 2019 field features five teams, including Canada East, Canada West, the Czech Republic, Russia and the United States … Team USA has captured the World Junior A Challenge title eight times (2008-10, 2012-14, 2016, 2018) and has finished in the top-three in all 12 competitions.
