The U.S. National Sled Hockey Team kicks off the 2019-20 season today (Dec. 1) at the 2019 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup, facing Russia at 10:30 a.m. ET at the Paradise Double Ice Complex in Paradise, Newfoundland. Today's game will be streamed online here.
The U.S. is seeking a sixth-straight title in the event, having won the 2015, 2016 (Jan.), 2016 (Dec.) 2017 and 2018 events. A win this year would also extend Team USA's tournament-record titles to eight after also claiming titles in 2009 and 2012.
Last year, the U.S. skated to a perfect 5-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record at the 2018 Para Hockey Cup to claim its fifth-straight title in the event.
In the 2018 championship game, Jack Wallace (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) scored twice including the championship-clinching goal with 7:29 to play in regulation, to lead the 2018-19 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team to a 5-4 victory over Canada.
In its last five Para Hockey Cup appearances, Team USA has boasted an overall record 23-1-1-0 (W-OTW, OTL-L), including flawless 5-0-0-0 (W-OTW, OTL-L) records at the last three-consecutive tournaments.
Preliminary-round play for the 2019 Para Hockey Cup will continue tomorrow (Dec. 2) as Team USA takes on Czech Republic at 10:30 a.m. ET at the Paradise Double Ice Complex.
