Gameday: U.S. U-18 Women Resume Tournament Play Against Russia

The U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team takes on Russia this afternoon in the second game of the 2020 IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship. Puck drop is set for 4:30 p.m. local time (10:30 a.m. ET) and the contest can be streamed live here

In the 2019 tournament in Obihiro, Japan, the U.S. went 4-0-1-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and earned a silver medal to extend its unprecedented medal streak in tournament play to 12-straight IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championships.

GAMEDAY - The U.S. Under-18 Women’s National Team continue preliminary-round play today at the 2020 International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Women’s World Championship against Russia at the Ice Rink Vlado Dzurilla in Bratislava, Slovakia. AGAINST RUSSIA - The U.S. is 11-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) against Russia all-time in IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship play. The U.S. won, 3-2, and Makenna Webster (St. Louis, Mo.) tallied a goal. Lacey Eden (Annapolis, Md.) and Maggie Nicholson (Minnetonka, Minn.) each earned assists on the game-winning goal for the U.S.

TIME FOR TEN - Abbey Murphy (Evergreen Park, Ill.) is on the hunt for her 10th goal in Under-18 Women's World Championship play. In three tournament appearances, Murphy has tallied nine goals and 12 points in 11 games, averaging over a point per contest. 

GAME ONE RECAP - Goals from Abbey Murphy, Clara Van Wieren (Okemos, Mich.), Audrey Wethington (Edina, Minn.) and Rory Guilday (Chanhassen, Minn.), and a nine-save effort from Skylar Vetter (Lakeville, Minn.) led the U.S. to a 4-1 win over Finland. Eight skaters tallied points in the victory, with Lacy Eden’s (Annapolis, Md.) two-point effort (0-2—2) leading the way. Team USA was 1-for-4 on the power play, while Finland was 1-for-3.
