Game 2 set for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET

Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) and Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) scored third-period goals to help the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team rally for a 2-2 tie in the first of two games in the 2020 Series against Canada here today.

“We got off to a slow start in the first, but you definitely saw a change in momentum in the second and especially in the third.” said David Hoff, head coach of the 2019-20 U.S. National Sled Hockey Team. “I think that we need to challenge ourselves going into Saturday to up our game from the start and continue to play at our highest level through all three periods.”

Canada jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over five minutes into the first period after Billy Bridges snuck one past U.S. goaltender Jen Lee (San Francisco, Calif.).

Despite a handful of chances for both teams, the second period was scoreless.

Roybal landed a wrist shot in the top corner of the net to even the score 2:07 into the third, but Canada reclaimed the lead with just over six minutes to go in the period.

Farmer scored the game-tying goal with with just 1:04 to play in regulation to force overtime.

Both netminders were up to the task in an exciting, but scoreless overtime period. Each team scored once in the three-round shootout -- with captain Josh Pauls (Green Brook, N.J.) tallying for the U.S. -- leaving the final a 2-2 tie.

The U.S. and Canada will meet again on Saturday for Game 2 of the Series. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET at the Woolwich Memorial Centre.
