Third Preliminary Round Game Starts at 2:00pm ET on NHL Network

EDMONTON, Alberta – The United States and Czech Republic enter this afternoon's matchup tied for second amongst Group B teams, with both teams holding three points and 1-0-0-1 records (W-L-OTL-L). The U.S. defeated Austria, but lost its opening game to Russia, while the Czech Republic was downed by Sweden, 7-1, and bounced back against Russia.

Team USA currently holds a six-game win streak over the Czech Republic, including last year’s 4-3 overtime win. Cole Caufield (Stevens Point, Wis.) played overtime hero, quieting the rowdy Czech crowd as they rocked Ostravar Arena. Alex Turcotte (Chicago, Ill.) was credited with the lone assist. Spencer Knight (Darien, Conn.) matched up against Czech goaltender Lukas Parik, as Knight earned the win stopping 26 of 29 shots.

The U.S. National Junior Team will continue to focus on puck possession and discipline. Team USA has outshot its opponents in the first two games, and has only been penalized three times in the tournament. The United States penalty kill is a perfect three-for-three thus far. Additionally, 12 of 13 forwards have been credited with at least one point. Scoring from all four lines is an important aspect of overall team success. John Farinacci (Red Bank, N.J.) started the U.S. push in the third period of its game against Russia with a goal, and scored again his second of the tournament against Austria.

Today’s Opponent: Czech Republic

The United States holds a 13-2-1-7-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) all-time advantage over the Czech Republic, and have outscored them 86-67. In their last 10 matchups the U.S. holds an 7-2-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) advantage, outscoring the Czech Republic 46-19.
