GAME DAY: U.S. and Russia Square Off in Pre-Tournament Matchup

The U.S. Women's National Team takes on Russia today in a pre-tournament matchup at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship. Puck drop is set for 2 p.m. ET at WinSport Arena in Calgary Alberta. The game will be broadcast live on NHL Network. 

For the exhibition game only, the U.S. will dress all 25 players on the roster and will switch up lines halfway through the game.

SERIES VS. RUSSIA

The U.S. owns a perfect 15-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against Russia at the world championship with an impressive 138 goals for to just eight goals against. The U.S. met Russia on two occasions at the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship, once in the preliminary round and then again in the semifinals. Team USA walked away with 10-0 and 8-0 victories.

THE LAST TIME OUT:

The U.S. and Russia last met in the semifinals of the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship where Team USA defeated Russia 8-0 to advance to the gold-medal game. The U.S. outshot Russia 49-11 that meeting while Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) and Kelly Pannek (Plymouth, Minn.) each tallied two goals in the victory. Alex Cavallini (Delafield, Wis.) stopped 11 Russian attempts for her second shutout and fourth victory of the tournament. Knight was named Player of Game for her two-goal performance.
