Gameday: U.S. Continues 2021 Five Nations Campaign with Matchup Against Germany

The U.S. Under-17 Men’s Select Team will face Germany today at 9:00 a.m. ET at the 2021 Five Nations Tournament in Visp, Switzerland. The game will be streamed live on YouTube.

Today’s Opponent

Team USA is 4-1 (W-L) in its last five outings with Germany at the Five Nations Tournament. In its most recent outing against Germany, Team USA earned a 7-3 victory at the 2019 event in a game that included four lead changes. Ryan Humphrey (Northville, Mich.) and Gleb Veremyev (Sayreville, N.J.) each scored twice to lead the way for the U.S.

Game Two Recap:

The U.S. used a four-goal first-period outburst, including two goals from Cooper Pierson (Zionsville, Ind.) and single tallies from Gavin McCarthy (Clarence Center, N.Y.) and Logan Renkowski (Nesconset, N.Y.), to help Team USA to an 11-3 win over Slovakia. Seventeen different U.S. players recorded at least a point, including seven who had multi-point efforts.

Five Nations Tournament Standings:

Through three days of competition at the 2021 U17 Five Nations Tournament, the U.S. (2-0-0-0/W-OTW-OTL-L) and the Czech Republic (2-0-0-1) are tied atop the standings, each with six points, however, Team USA has played one less game. 

Three points are awarded for a win in regulation, followed by two points for an overtime win and one point for an overtime loss. A loss in regulation results in no points.

Slovakia stands in third place with three points, while Switzerland has two points and Germany one point.

The U.S. has scored 16 goals combined in its first two outings and allowed just five.
