The U.S. Women's National Team opens the preliminary round of the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship when it takes on Switzerland tonight at WinSport Arena in Calgary, Alberta. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. local time, 9:30 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast live in the U.S. on NHL Network.

Team USA looks to extend its gold-medal streak to six consecutive world championship titles, having claimed the tournament's top prize in each of the last five years and now a total of nine times (2005, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019).

THE LAST TIME OUT:

The U.S. and Switzerland last met in the preliminary round of the 2019 IIHF Women's World Championship where Team USA claimed an 8-0 victory. Dani Cameranesi (Plymouth, Minn.), Megan Keller (Farmington Hills, Mich.) and Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) scored two goals apiece and 10 more Americans earned points in the win against Switzerland. Keller was tabbed the U.S. Player of the Game for her multi-point performance.

SERIES vs. SWITZERLAND

The U.S. owns a perfect 8-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record against Switzerland at the IIHF Women's World Championship. Prior to meeting at the 2019 WWC, the last time the two opponents met on the international stage was at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, where the two teams squared off in the preliminary round. The U.S. broke an Olympic record that night by scoring three goals in a 55-second span in the first period en route to a 9-0 victory.
