GAME DAY: U.S. Faces Canada in Gold-Medal Game Rematch

U.S. defeated Canada in overtime to win gold at the 2018 Winter Paralympic Winter Games

The 2022 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team will compete for a gold medal as it takes on Canada in the gold-medal game of the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games today at the Beijing National Indoor Stadium. Puck drop is set for 12:05 p.m. local time, 11:05 p.m. ET (March 12), and the game will be televised live on USA Network. 

The U.S. advanced to the gold-medal game after defeating host China 11-0 in the semifinals. The U.S. enters today's game with a perfect 3-0-0-0 (W-OTW-OTL-L) record while Canada is 2-0-0-1, with its only loss coming against the U.S. in the preliminary round.

THE SERIES vs. CANADA

In Paralympic play, this is the sixth meeting between the two nations. Through five games, the United States holds a 3-1- 0-0-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L-T) advantage over Canada, including four-straight wins, and has outscored the Canadians by a 16-3 margin. Three of those meetings were round-robin or preliminary-round games, one meeting was in the semifinals and one meeting took place in the 2018 gold-medal game, where the U.S. claimed a 2-1 victory in overtime for its third-straight Paralympic gold medal.

SEMIFINAL RECAP: USA 11, CHN 0

Brody Roybal (Northlake, Ill.) scored four goals, which included a first-period hat trick, and Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) tallied six points and became the U.S. all-time assists leader at the Paralympics as the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team defeated China, 11-0, in the semifinal round of the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

THE LAST TIME OUT: USA 5, CANADA 0

Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) tallied one goal and three assists to become Team USA’s all-time points leader at the Paralympic Winter Games, and Jen Lee (San Francisco, Calif.) recorded a shutout as the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team defeated Canada, 5-0, in the preliminary round opener of the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

GAME 2 RECAP: USA 9, Korea 1

Jack Wallace (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) scored a hat trick in the first period and Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) tallied five points as the 2022 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team defeated South Korea, 9-1, in its preliminary-round finale of the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games.

IN THE RECORD BOOKS

After becoming the U.S. all-time Paralympic assists leader with his six-point performance against China, Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.) now leads the U.S. in all-time Paralympic goals, assists, and points. Farmer overtook the top spot for most career Paralympic points by any U.S. player after putting up four points (1g, 3a) in Team USA's 2022 Paralympic debut against Canada.
