U.S. Roster for U18 Men's Worlds Announced

Team USA begins preliminary-round play tomorrow against Canada

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Hockey announced today a 24-player roster for the U.S. Under-18 Men's National Team that will compete at the 2022 IIHF U18 Men's World Championship from April 23-May 1 in Landshut and Kaufbeuren, Germany.

This year's tournament features eight nations split into two groups for the preliminary round, which begins April 23. Team USA will compete in Group A alongside Canada, Czechia and Germany, with all games played at Fanatec Arena in Landshut. Group B includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden and Switzerland, and they will play preliminary-round games at Erdgas Schwaben Arena in Kaufbeuren, Germany. Each site will host two quarterfinal games, while the two semifinal games and bronze and gold-medal games will be played at Fanatec Arena.

Team USA is led by Adam Nightingale (Cheboygan, Mich.), who is making his IIHF head coaching debut. Rutger McGroarty (Lincoln, Neb.)  was named captain of the team, while Ryan Chesley (Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Cutter Gauthier (Scottsdale, Ariz.) will serve as alternate captains. 

The U.S. is in search of its 11th gold medal in tournament history after most recently claiming gold in 2017 in Poprad, Slovakia. The 10 gold medals are the most of any team in tournament history.

The Under-18 Team begins preliminary-round play tomorrow (April 23) evening against Canada. NHL Network will broadcast the game at 3:30 p.m. ET (delayed broadcast/available live on ESPN+). All other Team USA games will be broadcast live on NHL Network. 

NOTES: Nick Fohr (Grand Forks, N.D.), Jimmy Mullin (Philadelphia, Pa.), David Lassonde (Durham, N.H.) and Brent Darnell (Livonia, Mich.) are serving as assistants to U.S. head coach Adam Nightingale ... The U.S. has won 10 gold medals in IIHF U18 Men's World Championship history, the most of any country.
